I'm a Cal Poly graduate, married to an Australian who I love to pieces, obsessed with dogs but don't have one because we love to travel too much, and my hope is to one day work for the Sundance Institute, as I have a deep love for independent and documentary film.
Formerly from the Bay Area and worked in media for the last 10 years. Started out at an ad agency in SF, then moved to Australia for 4 years working for a start up, and relocated to LA 3+ years ago continuing to work in media. I recently started a new job at Twitter and have never loved a job more. For the first time since moving to LA, I feel like I'm exactly where I'm meant to be which is refreshing. I'm managing two of our largest studios which I hope will be a step in the Sundance Institute direction.
Some other recent and exciting news is that we are expecting a little baby boy this summer. We are so happy and freaking out at the same time. I admire so many of the Moms in this group and will no doubt be seeking your advice as I enter this new chapter!!!
I'm always here if anyone needs a thing - advice on moving to LA, networking, planning a trip to Australia, etc. Excited to be part of the W&W family and look forward to connecting with all of you.
Originally from New Jersey, studied Journalism and Graphic Design at Rutgers University and for the past three years have lived in Manhattan. Currently work at Ralph Lauren managing all wholesale digital content strategy and production--think how the RL brand's story is told at Bloomingdales, Macy's, Bergdorfs, etc. For fun, I love to sail down in Maryland with my family and have a serious travel bug. Most recently, spent a week eating my way through Thailand. I'm currently training for the Paris Marathon and fundraising for the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation. As a way to raise money, I ask for donation and a dare while I train--check out all the ridiculous things I've been dared to do the past few months and if you see me running around NYC, say hi!
Hello Ladies!
Thank you for putting this group together Kelsey! This couldn’t come at a better time for me as well. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Sadie, I am 31 yrs old, living in San Francisco, and single. If ya’ll know of any eligible bachelors, preferably employed, please let me know.
I graduated Cal Poly with a degree in Biology in 2005. I had a short stint as a surgical assistant right out of college, then got into lab equipment sales and have been here ever since. This career has given me the ability to travel, a very flexible schedule working from home, unlimited autonomy, and a great income (golden handcuffs), but I have been yearning for something more fulfilling for years now. I am ready for a drastic change, but don’t know where to begin. My close friends can attest to the fact that I have a different career “idea” every other week, anywhere from a cake baker to Optometrist to MFT. I greatly appreciate their patience over the years. Oh and by the way, I have never baked a cake in my life. Cake bakers just seem like they love their jobs.
In my free time I love SoulCycle, wine + a good cheese plate, and taking my 5 month old Pomeranian puppy on long walks on baker beach.
I really enjoy reading about all of your careers. This is a great networking opportunity and I may be reaching out to a few of you for some insight. Thanks again Kelsey!
My name is Lauren and I just moved to a fantastic spot in Santa Monica 4 blocks from the beach and started a new job at a consulting firm called Capgemini. I am a change management consultant and I travel every week M-Th to my client site (just got assigned to a project in Minneapolis...brrr). Despite people thinking I'm insane for traveling that much, I actually really love that get to help organizations go through transformational changes. It is shocking how often companies forget that they are made up of people... full of emotions... and without those people their business will not be successful.
Anyways, I'm a bit of a gypsy. In the last decade I've earned my BA from UCI and my MBA from Thunderbird. I've lived in Washington DC, New York, Phoenix, Madrid, Spain, Mendoza, Argentina, Hanoi, Vietnam, Beijing, China and now I'm back in LA. I might be slightly obsessed with traveling. I really feel like I did everything I wanted to in my 20s- tried different career paths, traveled, studied, explored.
Now I'm trying to see where I want the next decade to go. I would like to apply my experience to my passion for international development/non-profit work in the next couple of years. And as you might imagine, it isn't easy to date when you live in so many different places and travel each week. So I am looking for a handsome adventurous lad who can keep up with me... and I'm open for suggestions #vulnerable
My name is Liz O'Malley and I live in Los Angeles doing fundraising for the Sundance Institute. I have loved my job thus far but am looking to take on my next challenge in 2015 whether it's a bigger role at Sundance or another film non-profit. Other goals I have for this year are committing more fully to health and exercise and giving myself the time outside of work to date and possibly find someone to share this crazy ride with. Can't wait to get (and hopefully give) some great inspiration from this group!!
Hi All! I'm Natalie. I live in the East Bay in Alamo, CA. I have been a stay at home mommy to 3 amazing little people for the last 9 years. This past year I started my own business. I created a children's Christmas game called Star From Afar, and am now working like a crazy person to get thing in stores across the US for 2015. Although I absolutely LOVE what I am doing.... I am still trying to figure out what this working mom thing looks like. I feel truly blessed to be in this group!
This group comes at a perfect time for me! Like many others here, I also graduated from Cal Poly (quite a while ago) and now I work full time in San Francisco as the VP of Creative Development at Bare Escentuals (bareMinerals). My husband and I live up in Corte Madera and have two kiddos - my son is 7 and my daughter is 6. I love my job, but struggle with finding time to also volunteer in the classroom, make it to soccer practice - all while not missing a creative review!
Hi, I'm Caitlin and I just finished building a home in the Willow Glen area of San Jose with my husband Matt. I've been working at Facebook for the past 8 years primarily in Product Marketing but more recently in Marketing Operations (after returning part-time after coming back from maternity leave). I have an 18 month old son who I am lucky enough to be home with a couple of days a week. I am currently plotting my next business move (in the planning and pre-investment phase) and my next baby. Why is it still so hard to juggle career advancement and family planning? Looking forward to connecting with the women in this group - thanks Kelsey!
Hi everyone! My name is Peri Wes. After looking forward to reading everyone's posts and loving the community feel of it all, I decided it was time for me to put my name in the mix! I grew up in La Verne and graduated from Scripps College in 2007. After graduation, I moved to Boston to attend Tufts Dental School, where I graduated with my dental degree in 2011. During dental school, I married my college boyfriend, Dave. Quickly after graduation, we moved back to La Verne where I joined my father's dental practice. About a year into my working/married woman life, my son, Dylan, was born. He is now 2 1/2 and is absolutely amazing.
Like many of you, I am constantly battling with the balance of being the best mom I can be and being the best dentist I can be. I want to be just like my stay at home mom friends and also like my full time dentist friends, but I have realized that you can't be two people at the same time. So, I have found a nice balance of working 3.5 days/week and being home the other days to play with my son and organize my household. Now that I am pregnant with baby #2 (due this August), my wonder is how it will all balance with 2 kids around! Luckily, I have you ladies to hear from for advice/tips etc! I think this is such a great idea and I really look forward to a community where women empower one another instead of judging them!
Hi there, I'm Kelsey. The mover & shaker behind Whiskey & Work. We created this community as a place for women to come together for real conversations about real stuff - you know... life, love, meaning, work, travel and well... whiskey, of course. We're all about building our tribe, full of people into the same, meaningful things. We love when someone inspires us to create more meaning & movement in our every day lives - so we do a lot of that here. We love our families, would do anything for our friends, and believe in supporting each imperfectly perfect woman in the room.
Previously the Advertising Director for Nintendo and Elizabeth Arden, workaholic, and corporate ladder climber - turned life & career coach, freelance writer, and life ladder climber. I now get to work with people all over the world to help them create a more fulfilling career, and life along the way. But on my other business card it might say snowboarder, eater, dreamer and fresh-air-addict... curiously pursuing life.
Come on over and say hi at KelseyMurphy.com
